Social Studies Spotlight is your go-to destination for entertaining and engaging social studies resources that appeal to both educators and students alike.
What can you expect from my social studies resources?
My social studies resources aren’t like traditional textbooks. Traditional social studies textbooks are boring. My social studies resources include fun and engaging games with a unique educational spin. For example, “Pin the Purpose on the Buffalo” takes the well- known game “Pin the Tail on the Donkey,” but adds a valuable social studies lesson – about Native American history and culture.
Unlike the long chapters in textbooks that are hard to comprehend, my social studies resources include short, kid-friendly reading passages. I strive to make the difficult social studies concepts easy to understand for kids by using simple, age appropriate language. Each reading passage is accompanied with coloring pages or color-in pictures in the margins to aid students comprehension of the concepts. Check out “The Fall of Ancient Rome” to see how I turned this complex social studies standard into a reading passage appropriate for fourth graders.
Each reading passage is accompanied by review questions that can be answered on paper worksheets or digitally via google forms. Personally, I can’t stand spending time on grading papers. I take grading off your plate by linking self-grading assessments to each unit. I also like the instant feedback this gives students!
